Magento e-Commerce, Artwork, Blog, Data Conversion
In 2009, Smullin Design was contracted by a sister company Smullin Supply to produce an e-Commerce website featuring over US$4.5M in products related to outdoor survival equipment.
For this project, we decided to use an existing Linux (CentOS 5) dedicated server hosted with 1&1 Internet, Inc., PHP 5, MySQL 5, Apache 2, XHTML 1.0 Strict, CSS 2.0, JavaScript (jQuery, Dojo), and the newly released (Q3 2008) open-source e-commerce platform Magento 1.2.1, as well as the popular blog platform WordPress 2.7.
Over a period of 3 months, requirements of the job included, but were not limited to:
-
configuring magento core
-
developing custom sql scripts for bulk importing/truncating 12,000+ products and 50+ categories into magento mysql database
-
automatically classifying products via custom taxonomy
-
alphabetizing categories programatically via mysql
-
installing/configuring/uninstalling magento connect extensions
-
developing custom magento content blocks
-
modifying front-end templates, layout XML, and skins based on the magento blank theme
-
designing custom magento theme with product slideshow component (jQuery Cycle)
-

-
upgrading magento installations between new version releases
-
version controlling magento with subversion (svn) 1.5
-
transferring magento between staging/development and production/live server environments
-
configuring magento for integration with several APIs including Google Base, Google Checkout, Authorize.Net, USPS, UPS, and FedEx
-
developing custom magento extension utilizing Zend Framework for integrating magento with wordpress to display relevant blog posts on product pages via the learning center
-
installing 256-bit ssl certificate and configuring a dedicated IP address and domain name for a secure online shopping and checkout experience
-
soliciting, hiring, and managing a team of over 20 professional researchers and writers located all over the globe to assist in the copywriting, editing, and proofing of product descriptions throughout the store catalog
In short, the finished project is nothing short of a masterpiece and we are very proud to have it in our portfolio.
